A casual outfit certainly doesn’t need to be daggy.
It can be styled to create a relaxed yet refined, chic look, just as a dressier option would.
Casual outfits are the ones you need when you’re heading to the shops, going to a relaxed local cafe with friends, or perhaps when
you’re off to the airport and are looking for something stylish yet comfortable.
They’re the looks that, for me, always seem harder to create.
I still want to look well-styled, but low-key at the same time.
With a
smart casual look, you’ve got more options
such as adding a low heel, silk lace camisole, or tailored pants to offer something extra and create a stylish look. But when it comes to
casual outfit ideas, it seems there is less to play with.
However, there are some simple tricks to help downplay what might otherwise be a dressier look, such as rolling up the hem of your jeans,
pairing jeans and a shirt without a belt, flip-flops rather than a leather sandal, or a raffia or canvas bag instead of leather.
And one of the fundamentals of making dressing each day easier and more enjoyable, whether you’re styling casual looks or something
dressier,
is creating a capsule wardrobe.
This refers to a wardrobe that contains the key pieces, the building blocks, that cater to both your style and your lifestyle.
For instance, if you rarely find yourself needing a formal look, then a vast selection of dazzling pieces is probably not necessary and will
remain stationary in your wardrobe.
Or if heels are something you rarely wear, then just a couple of pairs in versatile colours such as black, cream, and brown are bound to be
enough.
And you might have an urge to grab that trending jacket, but in reality, you know it’s not a timeless piece but a short-term fetish.
Instead, creating a capsule wardrobe that provides the pieces to help you
discover endless possibilities is the way to go.
Those pieces that are timeless and versatile, that can be dressed up or down with simple variations to the look.
I’m referring to pieces such as jeans in several colours, denim and tailored shorts, the perfect white t-shirt, a linen shirt, and a
trench coat, to suggest just a few.
In this blog, I’ve shared 31 casual outfit ideas using the sort of pieces you would find in a minimalist capsule wardrobe, to
create looks that will work for many seasons to come.
These looks can also be easily adapted to create even more casual outfit ideas simply by using a different style of shoe, adding a casual
jacket, using a t-shirt rather than a shirt, and many more variations.
There is so much to play with!
Enjoy!

If you’re a regular visitor to my blog or follow me on Instagram, you may know that my focus is on
making our wardrobes more sustainable, more ethical. I share ideas and brands to support both.
But you may also notice that some of the pieces I share in my blog, don’t rank well when it comes to their sustainability. I do this
because I recognise that for some people it’s very hard to buy more expensive pieces of clothing that have a better ranking.
So when I share fashion that's not where it should be in terms of quality, sustainability, and ethics, I only share pieces that
are minimalist in style and not based on short-term trends. Therefore, these pieces will continue to serve well in your wardrobe.
This isn’t as good as buying sustainable fashion, but it’s certainly better than heading for on-trend items that quickly stop
appealing to you, and potentially end up as waste.
