Known as the pioneers of ‘ugly’ sandals, years ago Birkenstock were nothing more than a comfortable, relaxed shoe that were
popular for kicking around in.
Over time their popularity has skyrocketed with stores everywhere stocking their products and influencers pairing their pieces with
luxury labels.
In more recent years it’s been another story altogether.
Birkenstock collaborations have seen the brand mixing it up with some of the world's leading designers creating luxury pieces that can
sell out faster than the Adidas Samba sneakers!
Birkenstock's collaborations have found them working with luxury brands like Jil Sander, Rick Owens and Valentino Garavani.
All big names in the world of fashion.
It’s not the first time Birkenstock has had collaborations with high-end designers.
In 2020 they created another collection with Proenza Schouler focusing on canvas material for a lighter summer look.
Lately, leather has been the lead material and detailed craftsmanship the central focus.
In a press release Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler explained, “Birkenstock and Proenza Schouler both share a
common respect and admiration for the craftsmanship and detailed work that is integral to all of our products. We are excited to pick up
where we left off and expand on the collection with fresh colorways that feel very in-the-moment and true to our brand.”
The challenge for those of us looking for our own pair, however, is finding them before they sell out!
So, I’ve done the searching for you and put together a collection of 21 pairs, new and pre-loved, still available when this
editorial was updated.
Not all of these are designer collaborations with Birkenstock but they're all fabulous shoes!
And along with these updates, this time round I've also included some styling ideas for how to make the most of your Birkenstocks in
your wardrobe.
Shop now to get your pair before they’re gone!
They might be a simple shoe by design, but they can fulfil many roles.
From pairing with the most basic of outfits such as shorts and a t-shirt, to rising to the task of accompanying a tailored suit, these days
Birkenstock sandals have no limits.
Have a look below to find some ideas for how to get the most out of Birkenstocks if you have them in your wardrobe.
